The kid’s room: Imagine a space that they’ll never want to leave

In design, kids rooms are often the forgotten room. Yet this is the room where you can explore the most possibilities. Colour can be bold, décor can mismatch, and everything you dreamed of when you were a kid, can come to life. We have found seven ideas for kid’s rooms that will guarantee they’ll never want to leave the room.

Chalkboard wall

There was a time where drawing on the walls was frowned upon. Welcome to the chalkboard wall! A wall where you can wipe down after you’ve drawn a Picasso, and it looks pretty cool too.

Dreamy tipi

Where better to read bedtime stories than from a tipi. The indoor tipi not only looks magical, it is a safe haven where storybook characters come to life and dreams come true.

Bunk beds

It is hard to remember a time when bunk beds weren’t the best part of sleepovers. Not only can they look good, they are fun, and create more space for activities. Note: Score the top bunk though!

Themed room

Okay, what kid wouldn’t want to live in this room! It doesn’t have to be this extravagant though. Themed rooms can be as simple as a themed bed and a mural on the wall. The options are endless.

Built in slide

What if you could just slide out of bed in the morning? Okay, for an adult that may seem lazy, but for a kid, it is about the coolest thing since the bunk bed. This slide is as extreme as they come.

Indoor swing

Swinging in the comfort of your own room? Not a bad idea. It will occupy the little one’s time for many hours, but make sure there is enough support in the roof space before trying this one in your own home.

Wall mural

Nothing can jazz up a kid’s room quite like a wall mural. It can add colour, theme and personality to an otherwise boring room. Plus it has the added bonus of transporting kids into another place and time.

Designing a kid’s room can be as creative as your imagination allows. It doesn’t need to be an expensive exercise, as long as you take yourself back to your childhood dreams, and have some fun.
