Tips to host the perfect garden party

The silly season is almost here! And for many of us this means we’ll soon be spending a lot of time in our backyards with friends and family. Whether you plan on holing a large Christmas function or are looking to simply kick off the summer holiday season in style, here are some simple tips to get your next garden party started.

  1. Have a plan

    The more work you do in advance, the less stress you will feel on the day. Plus, everything you do ahead of time gives you more time to spend with your guests. Ideally, you should begin planning your garden party weeks in advance. This includes setting a date, theme and planning your invitations.Next, think about the menu and what garden maintenance you will need to do to get your garden in tip-top shape

  2. Create a social environment

    One of the key factors for any party is creating an environment that encourages conversation. To do so, ensure you have a sufficient number of chairs for those guests that require them however remember the best parties are those spent on your feet, mingling and interacting with other guests!Family and close friends are generally happy to help out with jobs such as serving guests drinks or dishing out meals. This will take the stress of you and also gives them the opportunity to meet and mix with guests they haven’t previously met.

  3. Consider the details

    Work out what will go where in your garden. This includes food station, bar, chairs, picnic rugs etc. The location of your food station is particularly important, as you must ensure it is shaded to prevent over heating.TIP: Positioning your food station in close proximity to your kitchen and/or living area will allow the chef to easily interact with guests.

  4. Consider a Theme

    You may considering decorating your home in accordance with a theme such as traditional Christmas or winter wonderland. Once you know your theme, you can decide how to decorate your outdoor space. You might even plan your menu in accordance to your chosen theme.REMEMBER: It is a party after all. By introducing a theme or game you add an element of surprise to the party!

  5. Choose Your Entertainment

    Although many of your guests will enjoy simply mingling, you may want to provide some structure and entertainment to you party. If you’re having a smaller gathering, supplying and playing your own music may be the way to go. Alternatively, if you’re hosting a large gathering you might want to hire a DJ.
