When our Designer created the Linton, the brief was simple. 3 Bedroom, 2 bathroom with study, activity, free form living and it had to maintain the point of difference The Rural Building Company has become synonymous with. Like all of our designs, The Linton encapsulates a lifestyle upon which the Rural Building Company bases its very ideals.
The 198sqm home boasts a free form living that connects the ‘chef’ with the family, and proves very useable should the occupier wish to entertain or host a party for guests in an expansive area. The idea of the L-shaped home was to capitalise on acreage where the traditional farmhouse rectangular home would not suffice, or the family with the urban corner block who wanted to make the most of their space.
The gallery leading to the master suite allows for separation as an adults wing, with the office separating ‘mum and dad’ from the children’s wing. On blocks with a view the master bedroom has also been designed to capitalise on what could be taking in the morning sunrise, or evening sunset and stars. A spacious ensuite with ample dressing room caters for the owners of the household, with an office situated next door which could easily be converted into another bedroom.
The children’s bedrooms have been designed for double beds, with wardrobes and large windows to take in a cool breeze and provide a light airy feel. The activity area could also double up as another TV viewing space, a place for the computers or just somewhere for their toys if they are younger children. Located just around the corner from the kitchen, the activity room also lends itself to keeping an eye on the children while preparing an evening meal.
The internet nook is a design aspect not commonly found in The Rural Building Company designs, but in this day and age makes for a great retreat to check emails, pay bills and chat on the phone to friends and relatives. Upgrading to glass all round could make for a great backdrop view while surfing the net or finishing homework.
In traditional Rural Building Company style, verandahs all round provide great solar passive design making a cooler home in summer, and warmer home in the winter. Upgrading to bifold doors, or installing a double sliding door would provide an excellent link to the alfresco should the entertainer need more room for their guests when entertaining.
We have proudly chosen to use an Australian made five burner hotplate and automatic wall oven. As one would expect from The Rural Building Company, every appointment is first class and in keeping with our environmental concerns, we have used a gas boosted Solar Edwards hot water system – the most fuel efficient and ideal to run on gas bottles. There are two E-vents to exhaust the hot air out of the roof space, AAA rated plumbing and of course, the home is insulated.
The Linton fits the Farmhouse mould perfectly with its design being simple and elegant, yet different in many ways, and perfectly suited to acreage or a corner urban block.
